Mayor Sylvester Turner is partnering with Texas Unions to ship needed supplies to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria left the region affected by the wrath of the storm.

In a team effort to provide aid, the Mayor’s Office and other local unions organized efforts to collect supplies including drinking water, nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and battery operated electronics. Supplies will be loaded into shipping containers secured by the Seafarers International Union and sent by ship aboard the U.S. – flagged vessel, the National Glory. The vessel, owned and operated by National Shipping of America, LLC will be operated by members of the Seafarers. The shipment will be received by the Puerto Rico AFL-CIO in San Juan, Puerto Rico early next week.
